DANNY BROWN official music video for ‘Guitar Solo’

Posted on 06.23.11

Back in February, when the streets were full of snow and ice, and the temperatures were a freezing 20 below, director Tony 'Storymode' Foster and cinematographer Nick Giordano, set out in the streets of Detroit to capture the images for Danny Brown's Guitar Solo music video. A concept created by the director based on the songs lyrics, it's a coming of age theme that depicts the struggles for youth in the motorcity. The video was shot over three days, two days being strictly story based, and the third day shooting with Danny Brown capturing all the performance footage. Being an indie, low budget video, problems arose. One of the biggest was the theater canceling our shoot out front of the marquee hours before we were scheduled to shoot, it is a crucial shot and was the final shot of the shoot!!! No reason was given why they canceled. Big F-U to Birmingham 8. But nothing could stop the drive of director Tony Foster, who was always quick on coming up with new ideas and ways of solving the issues. In this particular case the team guerilla style shot at the theater late night when the theater closed. Some our favorite shots are the ones on the bus and in the mall, guerilla style. Special thanks to the Detroit Medical Centre, which served as the hospital location, it really made this video. Thanks to the great cast, Taylor Williams (14 yr old girl), Marcus Glenn (the boyfriend), and Shaquille Van (14 yr old boy). [watch video]

On Wednesday March 23rd, music lovers packed the Supermarket in Kensington, Toronto, to celebrate the release of Gavin Slate's "Life As A Salesman" EP. The EP, which was produced by Colin Cripps, is a only a small taste of what Gavin has in his song bag. The talented songwriter has high integrity for his music, giving each song its own feel and touch. To achieve this, Gavin brought in some talented musicians, such as Amy Laing, Kevin Warren, Colleen Brown, Maia Davies and Anna Ruddick from Ladies of the Canyon, and Colin Cripps.
We recently completed a live music video with Gavin for his first single, "Life as a Salesman." We recorded live audio with the help of Cyco Audio Productions, and took our usual multi camera approach to the shoot.. Gavin brought along Mike Slute, a talented musician in his own right, and it resulted in a great vibe. Shot in a an East end Toronto home, this video captures the chill Sunday afternoon jam session... just for fun. You can find this track and info on how to get a hold of his EP at gavinslate.com [watch video]

TEENAGE KICKS in the Studio recording 5 song EP

Posted on 12.13.10

Who is Teenage Kicks? The band is made up by the van Helvoort brothers who you might know from Cain and Abel, M CODE, and Ulysses and the Siren. Peter (vox/guitar) and Jeff (vox/bass) van Helvoort, team up with Patrick Marchent (guitar), and Cameron Brunt (drums) to create a real unmistakable rock'n'roll sound that is very catchy. Peter, the songwriter of the band brings much more than great lyrics. His unique vocals are full of soul, bringing an instant appeal to the music. The guitars are definitely rockin in this band. Patrick and Peter compliment each other really well, with great guitar riffs and switching up on solos.
Although they've only released two tracks to date on their 7" 'Shook Our Bones', Teenage Kicks has already created a huge buzz in the Canadian music scene. Right now they're in their home studio recording a five song EP.
With great songwriting and amazing tones and compliments from all instruments, Teenage Kicks songs have a timeless rock'n'roll sound that you'll want to put on repeat. Watch out for this band in 2011 and grab their EP in February!!! Download the 7" Shook Our Bones for FREE here. [watch video]
